TALES FROM TERRY OUR YWAM REPRESENTATIVE IN BUDAPEST

TALES FROM TERRY

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) - Budapest is a dynamic missions community made up of followers of Jesus from around the globe. We come from varied cultural, social, and educational backgrounds, each bringing a unique mix of giftings and experience . What we do have in common is a love for the nations, the desire see Hungary and it's surrounding neighbours reached with the good news of Christ, hope to see individual lives saved by God's grace, and a radical faith to believe it can be accomplished.

We are linked to over 800 similar YWAM operating locations around the world in over 145 nations, sharing a common set of values all aimed toward toward one goal: To Know God and Make Him Known.

It’s been quite a time since my last newsletter, But I am sure you will understand as I have just come back from leading a DTS team to Romania, Bulgaria,

 Greece and Armenia.

It’s amazing to find out that after spending three months with a group of young people aged between 18 and 22 and here I am 67. It’s a big age gap and

sometimes a little difficult to cope with.

There was a lot went off in the outreach, much too much to put in one newsletter, as I can understand that lots of writing can be too much to get to grips

with, so, at this time of writing, I hope to put something more about the outreach in my future newsletter, if that is OK with you?

Romania

We started out from the base on the 10th of December (one day after my birthday) in two hired vehicles bound for Romania.

We went to work with a church in Tigur Muresh whose pastor; Marin Blog is a great friend of YWAM... We had the pleasure of doing outreach in the form

of ‘bar evangelism’ and also in Shopping malls.

Our team consisted of 9 people including myself which was one Englishman, (Me) one Canadian, two New Zealanders (My co-leaders) and the rest

American.

This picture is with our host family. They treated us wonderfully. Not at all like being on outreach where many times one

 has to accept difficult situations.

Heart scare

Whilst In Romania, I started to have pains in my chest and thought it may have been a stroke or something, so one of the church members who

was a doctor, took me to the emergency hospital where they put all kinds of electrodes on my chest and finally decided that I must have had a trapped

nerve there.

Always be prepared!

It says in the Bible that we must always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks for the hope that you have. Well. When I came to the hospital,

a nurse took my particulars and asked me what I was doing; I told her I was among other things, a clown. After treatment and I was ready to go home,

she came and asked me what I do as a clown and that three of her colleagues also wanted to know and would I do something for them.

I told her that I tell people about Jesus and do kid’s songs and if they liked, I would do a song, but only if they would do the actions. They said they

would, so here I am, in the emergency ward with patients and doctors watching, doing the actions and singing the song ‘God Told Noah’ It bought a lot

of smiles to the place. J

Bulgaria

Bulgaria was a different place to Romania. Our living accommodations were a hostel. The shower in my room was an open pipe that made a terrible noise

 when switched on.

Our hosts, Plaman and Alex with their son Christian were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for them

Our ministry times were very busy, although we didn’t do any street evangelism; our goal was to encourage the church there, so we went visiting many,

many churches.

This is where I taught two of the team to be clowns. They were naturals! ‘Mr. Checkers and Miss Lily’.

We had the pleasure of going so some Gypsy churches. They were wonderful. The joy of the Lord was amazing. If the truth be known, we didn’t

 encourage them, they encouraged us.

Snow, snow, snow

Whilst we were in Bulgaria, it snowed and it snowed and it snowed, so much it was about three foot deep and at one time we were snowed in.

At another time, we had a snow storm and I was following Plaman in his car along a country lane and the weather was so bad I couldn’t see a thing until

I came face to face with another car. I was on the wrong side of the road and had driven past Plaman without seeing him.

After driving some way, we stopped and had to wait for Plaman and our other team members in their vehicle to find us. Exciting but scary!

The church we worked with had about 40 churches in and around the city and only about five pastors so they did a lot of traveling to minister to people,

so please pray for more pastors.
Please pray

1, For all the people who gave their lives to Jesus in Romania and Bulgaria and the work the church is doing.

2. For the church in Bulgaria and for more pastors to come and join the faithful few.

3. For Plaman and Alex our hosts, that the Lord will provide for their needs.

4. For all the blessings we have each day without even knowing it.

And I thank the Lord for you!

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel, for which I am an ambassador. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:19-20.
